We are all humans and sometimes things don’t happen the way we want them too.  I’m going to give you two real examples I saw and experienced this weekend of what I felt and really know was the wrong thing to do also what was the right thing to do.

The wrong thing happened when I was on the plane I was walking towards the back of the plane when I passed a lady flight attendant being reamed and completely embarrassed in front of that section of people.  This was happening all because of her making a mistake and not getting a garbage bag for a lady that was acting more like a snooty little girl.  The attendant was apologizing sincerely…until she was pushed passed the point with the snooty we’ll continue to call her girl when she said “you can get out of my face now” the attendant was very professional but did defend herself and got vocally firm with the girl …as I would’ve to if some girl didn’t recognize my mistake and sincere apology.  So at the end the attendant asked her politely would you still like me to bring you a garbage bag?” the girls reply rudely “well obviously!”.  I did interject on the attendants behalf saying “everyone makes mistakes you don’t have to be so mad and rude”  everyone around her saw the nasty attitude and looked around like this girls crazy, literally if there would’ve been an air marshal she would’ve been handcuffed…well not really but if the air marshal was me then YES SHE WOULD HAVE!

The day before my flight to leave back to my hometown when we were doing the noon checkout from The Glenn which is a specialty chain of the Marriott.  We decided to go sightseeing and checked our bags in with the bellman.  One of the bags my buddy had was extremely exciting to us because it had all the captured footage and powerful interviews that captured the most memrable weekend in business that we’ve all ever experienced.  We had an outstanding time and returned around 7pm.  Every piece of luggage we checked in came with a claim ticket so my buddy gave his 4 tickets I gave my 2.  I received my 2 pieces of luggage he received his 3, oh no that’s right if you are paying attention the worst thing that could’ve happened did!  What made it even worst looking back is that he took his lock from the footage bag with the laptop the IPad etc… yes he took it off of the electronics bag and put it on his big bag.  So why do I mention that?  You guessed it the electronic bag is the bag that they didn’t give him.  All of our hearts dropped we were frustrated because now we could never get this weekends memories replayed.

How could this happen he gave 4 claim tickets so how did the bag with all the electronics  out of all the bags end up missing.  You could imagine all the thoughts running through our heads, from purpose insider theft to accidental bag swap.  The problem there were no similar rolling bags left and the tag to his bag that was supposed to be on it was on the floor in the hotel luggage storage.  Now myself honestly I would’ve been pissed off and very Disgruntled, I would’ve probably been raising my voice about how could this happen.  The manager was extremely calm explaining how it could be possible although he hasn’t experienced it in his 17year management career.  He went on to say that they have 2 video cameras that record that section which started to set in some relief as to what may have or did happen.  We remained In the lobby for almost 2hrs and part of the problem was our buddy had to catch a flight soon.  Finally after sometime, the manager who remained calm the whole time came out and said “we saw that you did check in all of your bags however we haven’t made it to the point of what happened and it may take some until we do see who has it or what happened.  Although relieved we were not satisfied because we all have to leave.  3 minutes before us leaving, the other assistant manager handed a piece of paper to the manager and whispered into his ear.  They found out what happened so we were about to receive closure to this issue.  The problem is there’s good closure and bad closure…so the manager said we found your bag a gentleman from Alabama just called and said “I have the wrong bag.”  So the next day the manager sent Fed Ex to pick up my friends bag to have it returned.

The moral of this blog about people make mistakes is that you can’t control the situation but you can control how you react to the situation.  The lady in the beginning that had nothing to lose except for some garbage reacted as if it was literally the end of the world.  The individual that had thousands of dollars worth of equipment and priceless footage to lose was acting as cool as a fan understanding that mistakes happen even though it is still frustrating.  So again remember you can’t control a situation but you can control how you react to the situation.  Self control, discipline and action is key to countless ways of success.  2 huge kuddos to all the gentleman involved way to remain cool calm & collective secondly like the commercial goes way to never let them see you sweat.
